About

Why this site exists

Because Hobie no longer supports these boats, the parts are gone, and the boats are too good to let rot on trailers.

What this is

An independent, non-commercial fan archive for Hobie's discontinued sailboats, built and maintained by a Hobie 21 owner. It collects the factory manuals, parts guides, catalogs and instruction sheets that used to be scattered across dealer sites and forum attachments, the Hotline magazine scans, the history and community links, and the repairs and replacement parts owners are now making themselves.

What it covers, and what it leaves out

  • Covered: every Hobie sailboat that is out of production and was sold in North America, including the Hobie Cat Europe racers that were imported here (Tiger, Fox, FX One, Wild Cat, Pearl).
  • Left to Hobie: the 16, Wave and Getaway, which are still built and fully supported. Hobie's support pages for those are linked from the Community page.
  • Left out: boats sold only in Europe. Hobie Cat Europe still hosts their documents.
  • Hobie 21: the owner's boat, so it gets the deepest coverage.

What it is not

It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Hobie Cat Company. Hobie, Hobie Cat, Comptip and the model names are trademarks of their owner. The manuals, parts guides, catalogs, drawings and Hotline issues are Hobie's copyrighted work, kept here so that owners of discontinued boats can keep them safe and sailing. Nothing on this site is sold.

Classifieds

The classifieds are free and are for beach catamarans only: Hobie or any other brand, plus their parts, sails and trailers, and "wanted" ads for the same. Every ad is checked when it is posted and anything else is refused. Sign in with an email address and a one-time code, and add a phone number before you post; both are the contact for your ads and are only shown to other signed-in people who ask for them. The archive is not a party to any sale: meet in person, inspect the boat, and never send money to someone you have not met. Ads are listed for 90 days and can be marked sold, relisted or deleted from "My ads". The optional AI draft only describes what it can see in your photos; check it before you post.

Takedown and corrections

If you are the rights holder for anything here and want it removed, or if you find an error in the history, specs or part numbers, get in touch and it will be fixed or taken down promptly.

Contribute

  • Scans of anything missing. The Hobie 3.5, Monocat 12, Hobie 10, Holder 17, Holder 20, 405 and Magic 25 have no documents online at all.
  • Brochures, price lists, dealer bulletins, class rules, sail plans and Hotline issues after 1995.
  • Measurements: mast cross sections, rudder and centerboard profiles, casting dimensions.
  • 3D models of parts you have made, with a photo of them on the boat.
  • Repair write-ups with photos.
  • Links to active owner groups, videos and build logs.
  • Your boat's story. Hull number, year, where it sails, what you have done to it.

Documents are from Hobie Cat Company's support pages and media server, Hobie's Hotline archive, the Internet Archive and Mariner Sails. Boat and brand history draws on Hobie's own pages and manuals, Wikipedia, sailboatdata.com, boat-specs.com and the Hobie forums. The measured Hobie 21 mast section and the 3D-printed masthead fitting are original work published here for anyone to use. Site built with Astro.
